We are interested in creating a collaboration where history and hand craft rub against a work of precision, where natural meets artificial, where building codes and construction standards confront century-old artistry, where the old engages the new. Architectkidd, Chat Architects, Studiomake, and thingsmatter have developed approaches that make use of digital tools and fabrication that are applied to local materials and construction techniques. Our proposal for this waterfront site is a piece of architecture that illustrates the hybridized manner in which we like to fabricate things. It is a long, skinny lookout platform that will allow visitors to climb up and gaze out onto the water. The viewing platform is made of four separate components (stair, structure, platform, and furniture) that are each fabricated in Bangkok, shipped to Hong Kong, and assembled on-site. The experience on the lookout platform is intimate and meant to be shared between two people at a time.
